DEVELOPING…  despite the ongoing government shutdown, Trump has quietly deemed the permitting process for polluters “essential” — and just ordered the approval of over 200 miles of roadway opening Alaska’s wilderness to destructive mining.

The proposed Ambler Road Project is opposed by Alaska Native communities and would greenlight the destruction of hundreds of miles of wilderness. It threatens permanent devastation for Alaskan ecosystems and wildlife, all to benefit foreign mining interests.

The environmental implications are horrible. And, this speculative project would compete against existing mines that cannot run economically — threatening to despoil this unique wilderness and then go belly up, leaving taxpayers and local Alaskans with the cleanup costs and toxic legacy.

The proposed Ambler Road Project would cross more than 3,000 streams and rivers over 200 miles in a part of Alaska that is important for subsistence and wildlife, and it would threaten water sources and fisheries with toxic contamination.

This is just the latest example of Trump continuing to sell off our public lands to corporations in order to serve the interests of his billionaire buddies in the fossil fuel, logging, and mining industries.

It’s corruption, plain and simple: while government services and federal lands remain closed to ordinary Americans, the White House remains open for business to serve Trump’s corporate cronies.
