John, in the 10 Steps to Authoritarianism, Step 2 is the expansion of Executive Power.
When Trump returned to the White House this year, the goal was to steadily increase executive power until there’s no system left to check him.
However, the truth is, executive power doesn’t expand on its own. It grows when others fail to resist. Every silence, every shrug, every compromise makes the next grab easier.
That’s why this step demands action from the Courts, legislatures, and journalists. Most importantly, ordinary people can’t afford to tune out.
Don’t wait until executive power has already swallowed the rest of democracy. We can share what we know from credible sources and from our own experiences. We can post to social media, but we can also talk about it at local events like city council meetings and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs). Silence and acceptance are their most effective tools.
I launched the 10 Steps Campaign to shine a light on how we got here, and to plot a path forward with 10 steps to freedom and power.
But resistance takes all of us. Every voice. Every act of courage. Every small contribution keeps the fight alive. At Speak Up PAC, we are electing leaders and backing organizations that are defending democracy right now. That’s work we can only do with grassroots support. If you are able, please consider chipping in today to support Speak Up PAC’s effort to fight for our democracy >>
