The federal government shutdown is now entering its third week, and Congress is AWOL.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) sent representatives on another taxpayer funded staycation until Senate Democrats agree to his short-term spending patch, which would fund the federal government for just a couple more weeks.

Congress has had TEN MONTHS to pass the 2026 budget (consisting of twelve spending bills), but instead of working on those bills or any of the other pressing matters awaiting action. . .

. . . Johnson has decided to shut down all activity in the U.S. House.

The House took FIVE weeks off over the summer, and only Speaker Johnson knows how long THIS staycation will last!

Mike Johnson wants you to believe he’s fighting FOR you and AGAINST Democrat demands for increased ObamaCare spending.

But even if that’s true – many reports suggest he’s just upset with the timing and scope of their demands – there is still other work to do, including passing the actual budget and time is running out AGAIN.

Every. Single. Year.

The end of the fiscal year comes on September 30 . . . Every. Single. Year.

Congress has NINE months to pass 12 appropriations bills . . .  Every. Single. Year.

And then, like clockwork, they act like the looming deadline snuck up on them, try to pass a bloated extension of the previous bloated budget, and tell you it’s the best they can do . . . they were “racing the clock,” after all.

This time, the Democrats appear poised to go the distance to keep the government shut down unless Republicans agree to $1.5 TRILLION in NEW spending demands.

They are refusing to “compromise” on this bloated extension that is actually a continuation of the budget passed when Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer controlled Congress and Joe Biden was the president!

Whatever ends up happening, you can bet it will be another financially reckless monstrosity, almost certainly bigger than ever before and probably with billions in new spending for the multiple wars looming on the horizon.

On Monday, Speaker Johnson admitted we’re “barreling toward one of the longest shutdowns in American history.”

So when they finally decide to go back to work, they’ll tell us they had no choice but to pass yet another massive monstrosity instead of making the cuts they promised.

And they’ll demand YOU and YOUR CHILDREN pay for it!

“We’re sorry, but it’s not our fault; the world is on fire, we have to face political realities, and we’re out of time,” they’ll say.

And that will be a lie. This is a mess of their own making. It is their fault.

You and I weren’t consulted when Republican leadership in the House CHOSE to leave Washington in July so they could avoid a vote on the Epstein files.

We weren’t consulted when they took FIVE weeks off when they should have been working on the budget!

We weren’t consulted when they took the last 10 days of September off.

And we weren’t consulted when they chose to wait until September before working on the TWELVE budget bills that had to pass before the end of the month.

And it would also be false to say they have no choice.

It is because of the reckless, out-of-control spending for decades we are in the mess we find ourselves in.

And reining in the federal budget is the best hope we have from these crises spiraling even further out of control.

That’s simply not what the pathological spenders in Washington want to do . . . they just want to evade being held responsible for breaking their promises to cut the budget and start to rein in the ballooning national debt.

Just look at what will be at stake:

*** Interest on the national debt is the biggest expense of government. The majority of your tax dollars won’t be spent on anything tangible – just making interest payments on the debt! No matter how well you’ve managed your personal finances, the government is taking more and more of your money just to service the debt.

*** Subsidizing socialism. The more money the government spends on entitlements, the more people become dependent on the money, and the more money they spend, the more money they need. It’s a cycle that won’t end until we’re all on the dole – and our nation’s prosperity is utterly gone.

*** Crony capitalism at its worst. Every time the government spends the people’s money, they’re buying votes from special interests. This is why we have the costliest and most wasteful foreign policy in the world: because politicians in Washington are making decisions based on getting money for their districts, instead of acting in the national interest.

It’s the welfare-warfare state at work, and we must demand Congress break the cycle.
