John, I'm running because I love Maine with everything I’ve got.

My family has called this great state home for eight generations. It's where my late husband and I raised our five daughters. And it’s where I’ve broken barriers as the first woman District Attorney, first woman Attorney General, and now as the first woman Governor. 

I’ve fought – and won – a lot of battles to protect our health care, to protect access to abortion, to take on drug companies that fueled the opioid crisis, and to defend our state from Trump. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished.

But I can’t sit on the sidelines while Donald Trump is hurting Maine families and driving our democracy into the ground. Frankly, I could never live with myself if I didn’t do everything in my power to stand up for the people and state I love. 

And John, I'm the only Maine Democrat to win a statewide election in the last 20 years.

So I’m running. And I’m going to fight like hell for Maine and for you. 

This could easily be the most expensive Senate race in the country. The path to flipping the Senate Majority for Democrats runs straight through Maine. Unless we win this race, Donald Trump could have two more years to enact his lawless agenda.
