Pittsburgh Councilor Bob Charland is in the unusual position of trying to legislate fixes to the city’s housing issues while struggling as a resident to navigate them. He is the only city elected official who is not a homeowner. ([link removed])

Cleveland may not put up much competition on the football field, but wins big in converting vacant properties to homeowner options. Cleveland’s land bank ([link removed]) has renovated more than 2,600 homes in the last 15 years, compared to just eight sales by the Pittsburgh Land Bank in 2024.

These stories are part of our ongoing series “The Homeownership Wall,” ([link removed]) exploring barriers to homeownership in Pittsburgh.
