SUMMER VACATION

It is not the ideal year for vacationing, but nonetheless, we all need a break from the important, but difficult, news cycle.

As a result, Here’s the Deal is taking a week off.  

We hope that all of you, wherever you are, find some time to relax, breathe and smile, whether about moments large or small.

On this day in 1916, the United States established a new and now much-loved national park. It is the most famous in its state and one of the most visited in the country. That state’s motto is “dirigo,” meaning “to lead” in Latin. And it is one of the few that splits its electoral vote. Our question is a two-parter: what’s the state and what’s the national park?

Last week, we asked: In honor of Independence Day, who was the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence?

The answer: Edward Rutledge. Many readers guessed Thomas Jefferson. While he was just 33 in July of 1776, Jefferson’s fellow Continental Congress delegate Edward Rutledge of South Carolina was 26.
