It is Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to recognize the Native American communities who were here long before Cincinnati was even a dream.
The Miami, Shawnee, and other tribes lived along the Ohio River for thousands of years before European settlers arrived. They understood this land, cared for it, and built communities here.
Today, Native Americans continue contributing to our region, as veterans, teachers, small business owners, and community leaders. But too often, their voices get overlooked in our civic conversations.
We can learn the real history of our region, support Native-owned businesses, and listen to Indigenous voices on environmental and cultural issues.
This isn’t about guilt, it’s about respect and accuracy. We honor our Indigenous neighbors while building a stronger, more inclusive Cincinnati for everyone.
Appreciate you,
Greg
