This is urgent — President Trump is now using federal officers to arrest and detain Black citizens.

At the start of the month, U.S. Border Patrol agents in Chicago led a late-night raid on an apartment building. Federal law enforcement used helicopters to land on the roof and destroy people’s apartments and personal property. Black U.S. citizens were detained, children were pulled from their homes, and some were forced naked onto the streets. These officers did not even show a warrant upon entering homes and detaining people.

John, this is not about crime or public safety. This is about protecting Black power and forcefully pushing back against the Trump administration’s neo-segregationist agenda designed to dismantle our rights and drag our country backwards.

Trump won’t stop with the cities. This is a test for how far he can go, an authoritarian rehearsal to expand control and suppress dissent in every Democratic-led city. First it was Washington D.C. Now, it’s Chicago, Memphis, and Portland. Tomorrow, it will be your community.

We must show this administration that the American people will oppose him at every step — join Color Of Change in pledging to push back and resist federal occupation of our homes and communities!

For over sixty years, the primary response to crime in communities of color has been over-policing, over-incarceration, and over-criminalization rather than investing in communities. The evidence is clear and overwhelming: this approach has failed to create safety, instead perpetuating cycles of trauma and distrust and the very cycle of crime it seeks to disrupt.

Boots on the ground do not build safer, healthier communities. Real safety comes from investment in what helps communities thrive. That is fully funded schools, mental health support, accessible healthcare and addiction treatment, good paying jobs, and clean neighborhoods.

Color Of Change, alongside community advocates, civil rights, and racial justice organizations have been demanding these solutions for decades. Now we are urging elected leaders across the country to leverage this moment of resistance into a moment of transformation: by investing heavily in restorative justice, violence interruption, living wages, and the social services that truly build safe and prosperous communities.
