John, I want to tell you an underdog story.

In 2018, I had never run for office before. I jumped into a race for Congress in a gerrymandered district that had been held by a Republican for 22 years. The press and the pundits all said the same thing: We didn't stand a chance. 

But we hit the ground running. We built a grassroots movement that brought together Texans from all walks of life – people from different neighborhoods, different backgrounds, and even different political parties. We met voters where they were and talked about the issues that mattered.

And you know what happened? We won that race by 7 points! 

I'm telling you this story because the Senate race I am in right now feels a lot like 2018.

The cards feel stacked against us. My Republican opponents have millions in the bank. And once again, folks are saying that winning in Texas is too hard – that we shouldn't even try. 

But there are also some major differences. Last year, we built a historic grassroots movement against Ted Cruz that outperformed the presidential ticket by nearly 200,000 votes, and three polls already show that I can win this race – the earliest polling showing a Democrat winning in a Texas Senate race in decades.
