Today, we released our next TV and radio ads against Mitch McConnell. They're focused on how Mitch McConnell sold out Kentucky – making it easier for drug companies to flood the state with opioids, fueling the opioid epidemic while McConnell took millions in campaign contributions from the pharmaceutical companies.
It’s not typical to run as many TV and radio ads as we are this early. We know that. But if we’re going to actually defeat Mitch McConnell when he’s up for reelection in 2020, we can’t afford to wait or start late. Mitch isn’t. Last week alone, he spent over $800,000 on TV and radio, and he's already spent millions more attacking his Democratic opponent Amy McGrath!
Mitch McConnell understands that campaigns are different nowadays. You can’t just start running ads and talking to voters a few weeks before Election Day. But unfortunately, that’s not the strategy that so many other campaigns and Democratic groups take. They fundraise, fundraise, fundraise for 18 to 20 months, and they don’t start talking to voters until it’s time to vote. We can’t beat McConnell doing that.
That’s why we've been running TV and digital and radio ads against McConnell for over a year. That’s why we’re already working on our next ad. That’s why we’re not waiting to start organizing and talking to voters. And that’s why we are asking for your support today.
Mitch McConnell is sitting on tens of millions of dollars in contributions from corporate PACs, Big Pharma, Big Oil, Wall Street, and the NRA, and he will go after Amy McGrath with a vengeance. He already is!
The problem for Democrats is that Amy McGrath has to continue to introduce herself to voters, fend off attacks from McConnell, and hold him accountable – all at once. It’s impossible to have the resources to do all three of those things. That’s where the Ditch Mitch Fund comes in and why the work we are doing now is essential to laying the groundwork for a victory. We were the first group to begin running TV, digital, and radio ads against Mitch McConnell, and we've spent more in Kentucky than every other Democratic organization combined.
And so here’s the ask we promised at the start of this email: Mitch is wasting no time getting ready for Election Day, and we can't either. But we don’t have corporations and special interests backing us like McConnell does. We’re not a Super PAC or dark money group who takes massive checks from billionaires. We can defeat Mitch McConnell in 2020, and we can do it with grassroots energy and grassroots donations.
We’re building a grassroots movement of already over 171,000 donors, but we’re counting on everyday people like you to give now if we’re going to have the resources to run the type of full-scale campaign necessary to finally send Mitch McConnell packing once and for all.
