Dear John,

Because of you, Chinese officials who keep Tibet isolated from the world have
finally been held accountable.

Today, the State Department announced that Chinese officials responsible for
keeping Americans out of Tibet were banned from entering the US under the
Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act (RATA)

the groundbreaking legislation you helped make law at the end of 2018.

At the behest of the Chinese government, those individuals have kept for years
American journalists, diplomats and ordinary citizens out of Tibet so that they
can continue to oppress innocent Tibetans in secret. Now, those Government and
Communist Party officials can no longer set foot in the US—unless China changes
its policies and gives Americans just, unfettered and reciprocal access to
Tibet, as Chinese citizens have to the US.

RATA was the most important Tibet-related legislation in more than a decade, and
it overcame years of Congressional debate and negotiation—as well as a shady
opposition campaign by the Chinese government—thanks to your advocacy with
Members of Congress and your support of ICT. This legislation has teeth, and we
will continue to advocate for its full implementation, pressuring the Chinese
government to reverse its course and open Tibet to the world, which is our
ultimate goal.

As one of our members, you know we still have much to do. You know China won’t
end its 60 years of oppression in Tibet overnight. And you know we’ll have to
work just as hard as we did on RATA to make sure Congress passes the Tibetan
Policy and Support Act this year.

But today’s news proves your support for Tibet does make a real difference.
Today, the era of China isolating Tibet without consequences officially came to
an end. And now, we’ll get right back to work, together, until one day we
achieve freedom and justice for the Tibetan people.
