Hello!
On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we usually celebrate the resilience, strength, and cultural legacy of Nevada’s Native communities. But today, that resilience is being tested.
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada was recently forced to suspend all operations of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Luckily, the suspension was brief, as USDA funds are being used to support the program during the shutdown. However, this is not a permanent solution, and the WIC program is still very much at risk of losing funding. That means hundreds of Native families, mothers, babies, and young children could be cut off from the food, nutrition, and support they depend on.
This shouldn’t be happening. Our families shouldn’t be collateral damage in political games. We are asking everyone to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day with action this year by encouraging donations to the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada.
We are honored to stand with Native communities in Nevada to ensure our voices are heard by raising awareness, taking action, holding leaders accountable, and demanding that Native families receive the resources and respect they deserve.
Will you give today to ensure women, infants, and children have the support they need?
Your gift will help the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada avoid service disruptions amid the ongoing government shutdown. They provide nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and services, including supplemental nutrition foods, to tribal communities and Nevadans. This agency cannot be another victim of the Republican government shutdown.
Together, we can make sure Nevada’s Indigenous families are seen, heard, and supported.
In solidarity,
