Last Week
The 2025 government shutdown is turning into two stories.
One is about Senate Democrats trying to blame President Trump for what even the liberal media are calling their shutdown. The other story is about Senate Republicans working for the American people.
Last week, Democrats voted six more times to keep the government closed. They are holding out for hundreds of billions of dollars in new funding for Obamacare, including health care for illegal immigrants.
As Democrats voted to extend the shutdown, Senate Republicans confirmed more than 100 of President Trump’s nominees, including Herschel Walker, to be U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas.
On Thursday, the Senate also confirmed conservative law professor and White House senior advisor Jennifer Mascott to be a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals (50-47).
That same day, the Senate passed a $900 billion National Defense Authorization Act — setting national security policy and funding priorities for the upcoming year.

The White House was busy, too.
On Wednesday, President Trump brokered a ceasefire agreement to end the war in Israel.
And on Friday, the Administration started laying off Deep State bureaucrats.
Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer says of the shutdown, “Every day gets better for us.” Conservatives couldn’t agree more!
Conservative Spotlight
ASHLEY MOODY — A new poll shows U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) leading her top 2026 Democrat rival by seven points. Moody, a rising conservative star in Florida and national politics, has a 44%-37% lead over liberal Jennifer Jenkins. Moody, you’ll remember, is running to finish former Sen. Marco Rubio’s term, and then will have to run again in 2028 for a full six-year term of her own.

TED CRUZ — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is fighting hard for the First Amendment. Last week, the Commerce Committee, which Cruz chairs, released an investigative report about the Biden Administration and Big Tech’s online censorship of conservatives. Then on Wednesday, he introduced a new bill that would make it easier for victims of censorship to sue the federal government.
BIDEN SPYING — Speaking of Biden Administration corruption, last week we learned that his partisan, weaponized Justice Department was monitoring Senate conservatives’ phone calls! Senators Josh Hawley (R-MO), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), and Bill Hagerty (R-TN) were among the eight senators Biden’s team spied on. President Trump’s real Justice Department is now investigating this criminal breach of the Constitution.
This Week
The Senate has one vote scheduled for this week so far: the ninth vote to pass a stopgap spending bill and reopen the government. Democrats are expected to block it.
The rumor is that Democrats will continue voting no until at least Saturday, October 18, when left-wing groups plan political rallies around the country to celebrate their shutdown.
