Friends and neighbors,

Christopher Columbus’s legacy has been unfairly attacked during the woke years by people who would rather tear down American history than understand it. He was not an ugly symbol that we should erase; he was a real man who risked everything to cross an uncharted ocean and change the course of history. Columbus was not perfect, but his determination and his faith pushed human progress forward and opened a new chapter that would eventually lead to the founding of the United States.

President Trump issued a great Columbus Day proclamation that rejects the false narratives and restores pride in his story (and our nation’s). We should teach history honestly, not erase it, and we should hold up courage as a virtue.
