Hi JOHN,
Here’s the bottom line: When Wisconsin workers earn more, families have security, small businesses thrive, new businesses can grow, and communities flourish. A raise isn’t just about fairness, it’s about making your community stronger.
I grew up in a middle-class family right here in Wisconsin. My family believed in hard work and fair play. My parents taught me that if you worked hard, you should be able to raise a family, keep a roof over your head, and save for the future.
But that doesn’t seem to be true for a lot people. Too many families in our state are working just as hard (or harder) as before and are still falling behind. Wages haven’t kept up with the cost of living. Groceries, health care, child care, and heating and electric bills keep climbing, but paychecks aren’t stretching far enough. More and more families are forced into impossible choices. But here's the secret---it doesn’t have to be this way.
A raise would change that.
For working parents, it means not having to choose between putting food on the table and filling a prescription. For small businesses, it means more customers spending money locally—whether that’s at a restaurant in Oconomowoc, a shop in Hartford, or a hardware store in Delafield. Stronger paychecks mean stronger communities.
And for those dreaming of starting a business, fair wages make it possible to take that leap. When people have financial stability, they can invest in their ideas, open new storefronts, and create jobs right here in Wisconsin. Raises don’t just lift workers and their families, they create the foundation for innovation and entrepreneurship.
That’s why I’m running for State Senate: to turn these conversations into action. Because talk alone won’t pay the bills, and families don’t need more speeches. They need results.
This campaign is about building a Wisconsin where work is rewarded, not exploited. Where families have security and opportunity. Where businesses can grow, and new ones can be born.
Together, we can raise the floor so that all of Wisconsin can rise. And if you'll join me in this fight know this, I won't leave you hanging.
Thank you,
Mike Van Someren
