It’s Indigenous People’s Day. 💚
I am Ojibwe and a proud member of the White Earth Nation. My family is the
Wolf Clan. The mission of my clan is to never leave anyone behind — and
that’s been my guiding principle throughout my entire life.
Today, I’m thinking of all our relatives who survived residential boarding
schools. I’m thinking of my father, who always spoke truth to power for
the good of the Anishinaabe people.
I’m thinking of my daughter — who just got her first jingle dress — who
will grow up seeing Indigenous women as leaders in every corner of
government. After all, I’m the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota and
aunties are members of Congress, activists, and leaders in their
communities.
Above all, Indigenous people are resilient. We have always been here, and
we will always be here. Today, I’m celebrating that.
But I want more for everyone than resilience, I want people of all
backgrounds to thrive. That’s why I want to go to the Senate.

and to become the first Native American woman to serve on the Senate
floor.
Chi miigwech (big thank you) for being part of this hopeful movement.
