A quid pro quo scheme is unfolding right before our eyes in the wave of mid-decade map redraws pushed by Trump and the GOP. So what exactly is happening? Dustin Burrows, the Speaker of the House in Texas, got Trump’s endorsement after pushing for a new map that would help the GOP pick up five extra seats in Congress. Then, North Carolina State Senator Phil Berger reportedly negotiated Trump’s endorsement in exchange for pushing an egregious gerrymandering campaign. Meanwhile, Indiana Governor Mike Braun is warning that his state could lose federal funding if they don’t go along with Trump’s redistricting scheme. This is part of a bigger strategy designed by the Trump regime to bend Republicans to their will by any means necessary to rig the midterm elections, silence the voice of voters, and lock in GOP control of the House for years to come. This is a level of corruption and bullying that must be rooted out of our democracy. The NDRC is here to fight back. We refuse to let anti-democracy lawmakers off the hook for extreme gerrymandering and blatant corruption.
