Dear John,
On Indigenous People’s Day , we honor the 39 sovereign Tribal Nations whose history, culture, and leadership are central to Oklahoma’s past, present, and future. Their contributions strengthen our communities and enrich every part of our state.
Honoring our Tribal Nations means more than celebration, it means standing with them in the face of attacks on their sovereignty. Time and again, Governor Kevin Stitt has chosen division over partnership, working to undermine Tribal rights and tear down relationships that should instead be built on trust, respect, and collaboration as previous Oklahoma Governors did.
The Oklahoma Democratic Party stands firmly with our Tribal Nations. We believe that respecting sovereignty, upholding compacts, and supporting Tribal led initiatives in education, health care, and economic development are essential to building a stronger Oklahoma for all.
Today, as we celebrate Indigenous People’s Day, we recommit to supporting our Tribal Nations in their fight for dignity, fairness, and recognition. Together, we will keep working toward an Oklahoma that values partnership over politics and unity over division.
