WHAT'S HAPPENING
GOV. LUJAN GRISHAM EXPANDS PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER
Gov. Lujan Grisham this past week expanded her Public Health Order by most notably slapping a $100 fine on New Mexicans who don't wear a mask in public. Not only does the governor continue to hit communities with financial hardship but she continues to target businesses by threatening to shut them down again if COVID-19 cases do not decrease. She also strengthened rules regarding out of state travel. There is now a mandatory 14-day quarantine for those traveling from out of state that will be strictly enforced. It remains to be seen whether or not the governor will continue the reopening process in the state. We now must wait till July 15th to see if phase two of reopening will begin. While everyone is concerned about the health of all citizens, the governor's Public Health Order continues to be inequitable and unjust.
Here's the story from the Albuquerque Journal ([link removed]) .

GOVERNOR PUSHES FOR HYBRID SCHOOL MODEL IN FALL
Gov. Lujan Grisham and her fellow progressive lawmakers are pushing for a hybrid model to allow students to return to school in the fall. The plan means some classes will be in-person with a part of school time spent online at home. Students would also have to wear masks. This will likely interfere with parents' abilities to work and to care for children while at home. Students are the victims of this plan here as they will be missing out on crucial face-to-face instruction time and will only hinder students' learning.
“The Governor has pursued a one size fits all strategy since this pandemic began, and that has been a failure,” said House Republican Leader Jim Townsend of Artesia. “Expecting the same strategy to yield different results for our education system is foolish and will only hurt our children and further complicate the lives of families who are struggling during this crisis."

NEW MEXICO HAS HIGHEST SUICIDE RATE IN THE NATION
New Mexico has climbed to the top of a national suicide list, surpassing all other states in the country, according to the American Association of Suicidology study. We are failing our communities and are especially failing our young people. While the governor and her fellow progressives have been focusing on vote-by-mail and crippling our state financially, our youth is struggling. We must do more to support mental health and help those who need it most.
