I was at someone’s house… (I won’t say who!)... and saw something that made me CRINGE.

They poured hot soup straight from the stove into a plastic container.

Honestly, I thought everyone already knew this, but you are not ever supposed to put hot food into a plastic container… or really any food for that matter.

That’s because plastic leaches chemicals into your food (yes, even those BPA-Free or Microwave-Safe plastic containers). Some of these chemicals are “endocrine disruptors” that mess with your hormones and can lead to disease.

Years ago I got rid of plastic food storage containers and replaced them all with glass, stainless steel, and silicone containers instead. To save money, I save glass jars from products I buy (like from coconut oil and nut butter) and use these to store items.

So, if there is one change that I recommend you make today, it’s to stop using plastic containers to store your food. Perhaps you’re already doing that...yay! I applaud you!

Here are 3 more healthy kitchen swaps you can make:

  1. Replace non-stick Teflon coated pots and pans with cast iron, stainless steel, and ceramic pans. Non-stick pans can release potentially harmful substances into the air when heavily heated.
  2. Replace bleached paper towels and napkins with washable organic cotton napkins and towels. Most paper towels are made from wood and then bleached. This forms dioxins that are leached into the air and water supply, which are terrible chemicals linked to cancer.
  3. Replace aluminum foil with unbleached parchment paper or a reusable Silpat silicone mat. When you cook in aluminum foil, the aluminium can leach into your food, which may increase your risk of Alzheimer's.

To give you more ideas, I put together a “Pantry List” for you that includes all of the food brands that I buy and stock in my kitchen. I cut to the chase and tell you exactly what brands I’ve vetted and what I personally use:

To get a copy, pre-order my cookbook today and fill out this claim form. I’ll instantly send the Pantry List to your email!

And, if you know anyone who would love these swaps, please forward this email to them. It’s my dream that everyone will have a Food Babe Kitchen in their house someday!
