A lot’s going on in Louisiana right now.

Louisiana is at the U.S. Supreme Court arguing to gut the Voting Rights Act — overturning a key provision that ensures the voices of voters of color are heard in the halls of democracy.

Meanwhile, the Louisiana House Speaker asked state lawmakers to be available in case they call a special redistricting session in response to the court’s ruling — making Louisiana the latest state to potentially jump into Trump’s mid-decade redistricting scheme.
The Louisiana vs. Callais Supreme Court case will have far-reaching impacts that could catalyze the manufactured redistricting crisis we’re already seeing sweep states from Texas to Missouri and beyond: [[link removed]]

Moments like this one are what the NDRC was built for. Together alongside the entire fair maps movement, we’re defending democracy from gerrymandering attempts in state legislatures, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion.

You have the power to make sure we have the resources we need to fight back on all fronts. Chip in $30 or whatever you can. Every dollar you give means we can continue combining our grassroots organizing muscle and state-by-state approach to defend democracy in the 2026 midterms and beyond.

What’s happening in Louisiana is an illustration of why all of these fights are interconnected. It’s also a testament to why we can’t let up on any of them.

Take Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act — the part of the law that the Louisiana v. Callais case takes direct aim at. In just the last two years, its enforcement has dismantled racially discriminatory maps in several states, including Alabama and Louisiana, and given Black voters in those states fair representation that has been denied to them for far too long. It’s a stunning and sobering thought to consider what our democracy would look like without the Voting Rights Act.

We have to be ready to respond to whatever happens in the courts and whatever state lawmakers decide to do next. Donate to power the NDRC’s work to protect our voting rights in this critical moment for democracy: [[link removed]]

Thanks so much,
