Thank You, TX-23!

In the past year, much has been accomplished, and it's thanks to Texans like you who remain engaged every step of the way.

 I also want to thank President Trump for his steadfast leadership in making America safer and putting us back on the path to prosperity. It's clear that our President works around the clock, and I appreciate him taking the time to send me a thoughtful birthday note.

Protecting Funding for Hispanic-Serving Institutions

As Chairman of the Republican Congressional Hispanic Conference, I have urged the Department of Education to reverse its decision to cease $350 million in grant funding for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). 

Along with 5 of my Republican colleagues, we have made the case to restore this critical funding that is so essential to groundbreaking research and innovation at top-tier universities in the Lone Star State. 

Texas has the second-largest concentration of Hispanic-Serving Institutions in America, with 112 colleges and universities designated as HSIs. These schools play an important role in preparing Texas' best and brightest, and I will continue to push to ensure that higher education across our district remains accessible, affordable, and high-quality for all.

October 7th and Peace in the Middle East

Tuesday, October 7, was the second anniversary of the Hamas-led attack on Israel. This week, Hamas accepted President Trump's peace plan, ending the war in Gaza and releasing all hostages.

As Co-Chair of the Latino-Jewish Caucus, I have remained engaged in demanding the release of the 48 remaining hostages. To celebrate this momentous victory, I joined my fellow co-chairs in a statement of solidarity.



This is a major moment for America and the Middle East. We must bring the hostages home.

U.S. Navy Celebrates 250 Years

On Monday, October 13, the U.S. Navy celebrates its 250th birthday.

I enlisted at 18 years old, without a high school diploma (or even knowing how to swim). 20 years later, I retired at the highest enlisted rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. The U.S. Navy played a pivotal role in my life, and I appreciate all the men and women who have served and are currently serving our great country. Hooyah!
