The Trump administration is taking aim at Planned Parenthood -- this time, through the Small Business Administration.

First, the SBA completely bungled the appropriation process for small business loans (commonly referred to as the Paycheck Protection Program) and gave them to huge organizations that didn't need them. Planned Parenthood locations throughout the country received those loans -- as they should have, because they fit the qualifications -- but now the Trump administration is trying to revoke those approved loans on ideological grounds.

We know that Planned Parenthoods are a vital part of health care throughout America, but particularly rural America. They provide primary and preventive care to many who would have nowhere else to turn to for family planning, and the Trump administration is targeting them for that work.

I joined 40 of my fellow Democratic senators in signing a letter to the Small Business Administration to demand that they stop targeting Planned Parenthood locations who received SBA loans on ideological grounds: Will you add your name next to ours, too?

The SBA gave out more than 4.3 million loans under their program meant to keep essential small businesses -- just like local Planned Parenthoods -- afloat during the coronavirus pandemic.

That's important, because since 2016 Planned Parenthood has served more than 2.4 million patients, provided 9.7 million services, and provided more than 4.7 million STI tests and treatments. They're doing essential work in communities across the country, and they are more than deserving of these loans especially because, under the CARES Act, they qualify. The end. Full stop.
