John — I want to introduce you to a leader who gives me real hope for Colorado’s climate future. Her name is Gianina Horton, and JanePAC is proud to endorse her for Aurora City Council, Ward 1. Ward 1 is one of the most diverse communities in Aurora. It's also where social justice and environmental justice collide. It's home to the privately run GEO ICE Processing Center, and it’s under threat from corporate polluters. As you read this message, there's a massive 166-well fracking project proposed just outside the city, and it’s right next to the Aurora Reservoir, which supplies drinking water to 400,000 Coloradans. Fossil fuel interests know exactly how high the stakes are, and they're counting on Aurora to lock in their two-seat conservative majority on the city council and keep these fossil fuel projects alive. This open seat gives us a real chance to break that hold and elect a climate leader who will fight back.
Gianina knows what's at stake because she's lived it. As Colorado's former Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities Coordinator and Executive Director of the Denver Justice Project, she understands that climate justice and criminal justice are inseparable. She's seen firsthand how the communities overlooked by our justice system are the same ones poisoned by fossil fuel pollution.
