JOHN, this is Paul Eaton.
About two weeks ago, Donald Trump ordered our most senior Military leaders to leave their posts, at home and abroad, and forced them into a room to listen to his litany of political grievances.
He is mobilizing and weaponizing the entire federal government against his political opponents – people he and his administration have labeled domestic extremists.
American soldiers are deployed in American cities against the American people. Veterans are seeing their health care and critical services cut. All the while, Trump sits in his gilded Oval Office, scheming about new ways to undermine our Constitution and the rights and liberties each of us were born into.
Frankly, it turns my stomach. After more than three decades in uniform, the degree to which Donald Trump has disgraced this country and the office he holds is stunning.
But even now, JOHN, I have hope.
I have trust in our troops, and in their leadership. I have trust in the Veterans showing up and speaking out against Trump and his administration. I have trust because countless principled, distinguished leaders have chosen to run for office and hold the line.
