Italian Americans have made countless contributions to our nation for decades, ranging from the arts and sciences to business and public service. Italian Americans have long enriched our country's history and will continue to shape its future for years to come. Andrew is proud to honor the vibrant heritage, values, and traditions that Italian Americans bring to our communities. ANDREW IN THE NEWS As shutdown grinds on, Long Island delegation is meeting with constituents, looking for solutions " Not sitting on their hands, Long Island's four members of Congress are spending the time on other work.... Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-Bayport), who is the new chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, acted quickly when word came that the Trump administration was undertaking a massive cut to federal counterterrorism funding for police on Long Island and in New York City... Garbarino said he didn't let the shutdown — which he blames on Democrats — 'stop me from fighting for my constituents.' Also during the break, Garbarino said he's been working as the Homeland Security chair on other national security matters and is in talks with House GOP leadership about the lapse in the National Flood Insurance Program, caused by the shutdown. Since the NFIP's lapse on Oct. 1, the government has been unable to issue most new policies or renewals, leaving many homebuyers who need coverage for their mortgage uncovered and throwing purchasing deals into uncertainty. Salon in Sayville once again dedicated the day to giving back through the Annual Haircuts for Vets event, offering free haircuts to local heroes. Andrew and his team were proud to support this community tradition honoring those who served. The event also included access to supportive medical resources, giveaways, and service dogs through America's VetDogs. A special thank you to Assemblyman Jarrett Gandolfo and the Sayville Fire Department for making the day a success. It’s always an honor to serve those who bravely served us. Andrew Recognizes Bay Shore Community Service Efforts Andrew provided a U.S. Capitol flown flag and a Congressional Certificate of Recognition to Mike and Amy Parker of Bay Shore for their commendable community service efforts. Both Mike, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and Amy, a longtime nurse, have long shown deep dedication to helping others. Their commitment to helping their neighbors on Long Island has made a real impact in the fight against food insecurity in Islip and beyond. Andrew salutes the Parkers and all of those who devote their time and energy towards serving their neighbors on Long Island. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Helping Grieving Widow Access Small Business Loan Information The widow of a recently deceased small business owner contacted Andrew's office for assistance with getting information on the status of a Small Business Administration (SBA) loan. The slow and incomplete responses from the SBA had prevented the widow from selling the business following her husband's passing. Andrew's casework team contacted the SBA to request an update on the loan status information and get answers. Thanks to those efforts, the widow was able to repay the loan and move forward with completing the sale. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Stands With Israel And The Jewish Community On The Second Anniversary Of the October 7th Terror Attacks This week, Andrew helped introduce bipartisan legislation condemning the October 7th massacre and calling on Hamas to immediately and unconditionally surrender and release all of the hostages currently in captivity. Two years ago, Hamas terrorists launched a brutal, unprovoked attack on Israeli communities, slaughtering and brutalizing innocent civilians. Andrew continues to mourn the more than 1,200 people, including countless seniors and children, who were murdered in cold blood on the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. In the two years since that tragic day, Israel has come under constant attack each and every day. Andrew's support for Israel’s right to defend itself and its people is unwavering. He will always stand with our friend and ally in their fight against terror. Andrew is encouraged by reports of a long-awaited agreement to free the 48 hostages remaining in captivity, and he eagerly awaits their return to loved ones and an end to the war. Thanks for reading!
