John, In a truly representative democracy, the government is accountable to the people. Lawmakers are guided by the needs of the voters who elected them, and they act in the best interest of their constituents in the policy-making process. But that often hasn’t been the case since the Trump regime took over. After passing extremely unpopular cuts to life-saving programs like health care and food benefits, Republicans are now doing everything possible to hold on to power at the expense of the people they should be representing. You’re probably wondering why. John, they're scared they’ll lose the House in the midterm elections. What makes this attempt to subvert the democratic process even worse is that they’re doing it in the shadows. J.D. Vance and Indiana Governor Mike Braun literally hid behind a curtain to talk gerrymandering. Governor Kehoe signed Missouri’s map redraw in private on a Sunday afternoon. And Texas Republicans drew a new map in a secret meeting, then later locked Democrats in the chamber so they couldn’t stop the vote. This isn’t transparency. This isn’t democracy. And it certainly isn’t the will of the people. This is a forcible takeover, plain and simple — and we’ve got to end it. Here at the NDRC, we believe that sunlight is the best disinfectant. We’re raising the alarm, mobilizing voters, and fighting with every tool at our disposal to stop this power grab. If you’re with us, make an urgent donation to ensure we have the resources needed to keep up the fight.
Thanks so much, Marina Jenkins
