ICE Attorneys Increasingly Request Case Dismissals at Immigration Court Hearings—and Immigration Judges Grant Them on the Spot 
 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) attorneys—who represent the government in removal proceedings—are increasingly asking immigration judges to dismiss noncitizens’ immigration court cases. Rolled out nationwide in conjunction with ICE arresting noncitizens at immigration courts, this tactic attempts to funnel people into expedited removal, a process with fewer due process protections, to achieve fast-track deportations.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia granted our emergency motion to stop ICE from detaining unaccompanied immigrant children in adult facilities once they turn 18. The ruling enforces a permanent injunction in our case with NIJC and halts a harmful directive that would have placed newly “aged-out” youth into adult ICE detention centers.
