Portlanders are clear about this: we don't need or want the military on our streets, and we don't need or want Kristi Noem telling lies about our city.

The claims that Portland is "under siege" or "war-ravaged" are absurd, harmful, and dangerous. Donald Trump is using these claims, and old footage from 2020, to try to justify sending the military into Portland and other cities across the country. It's straight out of the authoritarian playbook.

The Portland area is home to millions of hard-working, creative, caring Oregonians. The Secretary of Homeland Security swept in and made a video on the rooftop of ICE, and then tried – and failed – to show that our city is on fire. They are purposefully using Portland as a prop for their political agenda.

Portlanders – myself included – are standing together to say we reject any kind of federal or military occupation.

A judge has issued a temporary restraining order blocking Trump from sending in troops, but the administration appealed that immediately. It's obvious that they have not given up in their quest to occupy Portland.

To the people I represent: I will be a check on these authoritarian actions, I will keep working to pass legislation that keeps masked ICE agents and federal troops off our streets, and I will continue to stand up to this administration.

Oregonians aren't backing down, and neither will I.

Thanks for standing with me,

Suzanne
