John,
Ballots are out in California for an incredibly consequential measure that will impact the 2026 midterms and beyond.
This isn’t just about maps. Trump’s administration is attacking our pillars of democracy -- from press freedoms and universities to the rule of law itself. Those authoritarian moves aren’t hypothetical -- they’re happening NOW.
Meanwhile, his economic policies are raising costs on working families by cutting healthcare and food programs while pocketing savings for billionaires -- stripping vital safety nets to fund tax breaks for the rich.
California has the gold standard for independent redistricting, and it’s a model I would like to see adopted nationwide. In fact, that’s what I have voted for in Congress, twice. But here’s the reality. States like Texas are using extreme gerrymandering to tilt the playing field in their favor. If we do nothing, California voters will end up at a disadvantage.
Prop 50 is a temporary measure to protect fair representation -- NOT a permanent change. And I will keep fighting to make independent redistricting the law nationwide.
In a healthier political landscape, this isn’t the path I would take. But given the threats to our democracy, we must use every tool to defend fairness. Voting YES on 50 means standing up for Californians’ voices and preserving real representation.
This moment matters, and I need to know where my supporters stand. Do you support Prop 50?
