Swamp Stories covers lobbyists’ efforts to shape the CARES Act

John,

In March, lawmakers passed the CARES Act, which provided about $2 trillion to assist with the crippling effects of COVID-19 on America’s economy.

But it didn’t take long for special interest lobbyists to attempt to influence this massive government stimulus package. Even amidst a public health crisis, lobbyists were out in full force looking to get a piece of the pie, fighting to influence where relief funds should go.

In the newest episode of Swamp Stories, “Hidden Trillions,” host Weston Wamp explores this feeding frenzy:

"[I]f a normal year of government spending justifies a multi-billion dollar lobbying industry, you can just imagine what happened when the CARES Act came into focus. It was a lobbyist's dream buffet."

What’s even worse? U.S. taxpayers were kept in the dark about where that money was going. Luckily, there are some folks in Washington who are committed to a transparent political system.

Listen to “Hidden Trillions” today to hear two of these leaders discuss the efforts made to shape the CARES Act, and the critical importance of ensuring that these kinds of programs are transparent and that Americans aren’t kept in the dark about where their money is going.

Happy listening,
