This week, President Trump announced a historic peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, marking the first phase of a plan to bring stability to the region and a just conclusion to the war Hamas started on October 7, 2023.
Two years ago, the world watched in horror as Hamas terrorists launched a brutal and unprovoked attack on Israel. Over 1,200 innocent men, women, and children lost their lives, making it the deadliest assault on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. It was a stark reminder that antisemitism and terrorism remain very real threats that must never be ignored or excused.
This new peace agreement represents a major step forward for peace in the Middle East. It includes provisions to free hostages who have been held in Gaza for nearly two years, to disarm Hamas, and to remove the terrorist organization from power—ensuring that the horror of October 7 is never repeated.
I’d like to congratulate President Trump for his leadership and can-do attitude in securing this breakthrough. What makes this moment particularly encouraging is that it brings new countries to the table that have not traditionally been part of lasting peace efforts in the region. This cooperation gives hope that a more peaceful and secure future is within reach for people of the Middle East.
It’s remarkable to see how much President Trump has accomplished less than a year into his second term. His commitment to peace, strength, and American leadership continues to make the world a safer and more stable place.
As we celebrate this progress, we also remember the families of the hostages, the brave Israeli soldiers who defended their nation, and all those who have suffered because of Hamas’s violence. America’s commitment to Israel must remain unwavering. The United States must always stand shoulder to shoulder with our greatest ally in the Middle East and reject terrorism in all its forms.
