From L.A. to D.C., Oregon to Illinois – what we are witnessing is not normal, appropriate or remotely legal.

Every day, Donald Trump finds a new way to abuse his power as the president of the United States.

He is urging the military to use American cities as "training grounds."

He is sending masked, unidentified agents to detain entire communities with impunity.

He is using the full force of the Department of Justice against his political “enemies,” like former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

And he is openly calling for governors and mayors to be jailed for expressing dissent and exercising the states' constitutionally reserved rights.

Trump’s actions are unprecedented, dangerous and authoritarian, plain and simple.

President Trump’s deployments of armed troops and federal agents on U.S. soil to intimidate Americans isn't just a grave abuse of power; it's a significant threat to our free and fair democracy.

And at this pivotal moment in our nation's history, Washington, D.C., is not coming to rescue us. But all is not lost – if we all stand united against him.

So as the states emerge as the first line of defense, I stand in solidarity with leaders like Govs. Pritzker, Kotek, and Newsom as they reject Trump's escalating overreach and defend the people in their states from his campaign of harassment and terror.

And as Colorado's next governor, I’ll stand with them to defend our democracy and our freedoms. Because I believe that Colorado can provide the vision our country urgently needs on how to best fight Trump and uphold the principles of American democracy.

Together with you alongside me, I firmly believe that no matter what the president has in store, we can and we will make Colorado the best state to live, work and raise a family.
