Fellow activist, recently, the PA Supreme Court issued a ruling that again protected voting rights here in the Commonwealth for Pennsylvanians.

According to the Pennsylvania Capital-Star, late last week, a 4-3 decision was reached to uphold lower court rulings that Washington County election officials had “violated voters’ rights by misleading them about the status of their mail-in ballots.”

Nearly 260 votes were cast aside due to simple mistakes, such as missing a signature or date – but voters were not informed. Because of this, voters were not given the opportunity to challenge the board's decision to reject their mail-in ballots or cast provisional ballots to have their voices heard.

Justice Kevin Doughtery – who is standing for retention in the November 4th general election – stated, “We must interpret the Election Code and its statutory procedures in a way that ‘favors the fundamental right to vote and enfranchises, rather than disenfranchises, the electorate.”

We are thrilled by the PA Supreme Court’s decision to protect voting rights. But this is also a chilling reminder that decisions around our democracy could look very different should MAGA’s anti-retention campaign of 3 Democrat-elected Supreme Court justices succeed this November.

We are nearing the October 20th voter registration deadline in PA and are getting ready to launch a massive door-knocking get-out-the-vote (GOTV) campaign – this is the time that grassroots support is the most critical. Will you rush $25 or more now to support the independence of our state judiciary?

The PA Supreme Court is a critical tool to defend our nation against the MAGA takeover. We need to move fast to ensure voters understand what’s at stake.
