A pollution-tracking tool born in Pittsburgh is now shaping global climate accountability ([link removed]) .

Carnegie Mellon University researchers helped develop Climate TRACE, a tracker unveiled by Al Gore this September. The website visualizes the spread of pollution from more than 9,500 industrial facilities around the world.

Climate TRACE and its local counterpart, Plume Pittsburgh, allow people to see the causes and patterns of air pollution ([link removed]) .

“They know that it’s not just them,” local clean air advocate Matt Mehalik said. “People then get some confidence to be able to speak out, to say, ‘Look, this is not acceptable ([link removed]) .’”
