Dear Friend,
The federal government has now been closed for 10 days.
This means government services are stalling, vital programs like WIC are running out of funds, and active-duty servicemembers are being forced to defend our freedoms without the certainty of a paycheck. That’s unacceptable.
On September 19, I voted for legislation that would keep our government open and accountable to the American people.
Despite the fact that this was a simple, short-term funding bill with no unrelated spending or policy changes, Washington Democrats blocked this effort in the Senate, triggering a government shutdown on October 1, 2025. Since then, attempts to pass a straightforward funding bill have repeatedly been met with roadblocks and political games.
I have said it before, but it bears repeating: funding our government should not be a partisan issue.
I’ve consistently voted to keep the government open under both Republican and Democratic administrations. Why? Because shutdowns hurt everyday Americans, disrespect our servicemembers, and waste hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars each day.
I remain ready to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to tackle the serious challenges facing our nation. However, the livelihoods of hardworking Americans cannot be used as bargaining chips to gain political leverage.
I will keep working around the clock to get our government back up and running and to ensure your needs are met at this time. Despite the gridlock in Washington, my top priority remains serving you.
If I can help you in any way, my offices in Washington, D.C., Anaheim Hills, and Mission Viejo remain open.
