Republicans have shut down your government—again. I flew to Washington this week ready to reopen it, but they didn’t even show up. Two weeks into the Trump Shutdown, they’re still blocking a funding bill that would keep health care affordable for millions of Americans.

Now, families are getting the bills. One woman in our district told me her health insurance premium is jumping 70%—and that’s on the low end. Millions more across the country are staring down even higher hikes.

Last weekend, a Trump-appointed judge struck down his attempt to deploy the National Guard to Portland, ruling that Trump’s claims of “lawlessness” were a lie. When that failed, Trump tried to send in the California Guard, and that was blocked too. I called out this blatant abuse of power because this isn’t law and order. It’s authoritarianism, plain and simple.

Hosted a Telephone Town Hall with Over 11,000 Constituents

I held a Telephone Town Hall with more than 11,000 constituents to discuss Trump’s reckless government shutdown and what it means for families across Los Angeles. Republicans are refusing to act as health care costs skyrocket, letting ACA subsidies expire and putting millions at risk of higher premiums. That’s not fiscal responsibility, it’s political games at the expense of working families. I’ll keep fighting to end this shutdown, protect affordable health care, and hold Republicans accountable.

Called Out Republicans for Raising Costs on Their Own People

Republicans have shut down the government and are driving up health care costs for their own constituents. States like South Carolina, Alabama, Idaho, and Georgia—those that refused to expand Medicaid—will be hit hardest with higher premiums and coverage losses. Even Marjorie Taylor Greene is calling out her own party. If she’s the voice of reason, the Republican Party is in trouble. While Republicans strip away your health care to fund more billionaire tax cuts, Democrats are working to protect families and make life more affordable.

Convened the Dads Caucus to Protect Americans' Health Care

As Trump’s shutdown drags on and millions of Americans’ healthcare hangs in the balance, I convened the Dads Caucus to demand that Speaker Johnson reopen the government, bring House Republicans back to work, and protect hardworking Americans’ health care.

I am relieved that our neighbor, journalist Emily Wilder, has been released from Israeli custody after being detained while reporting aboard The Conscience, a part of a flotilla attempting to bring aid to Gaza. After learning about her detention, my office worked tirelessly with the U.S. State Department and the Embassy of Israel to ensure her swift release.
