In 2023, after standing alongside over 7,000 activists who marched for action to end gun violence, I was expelled from my duly elected office in the Tennessee State House alongside one of my colleagues, Rep. Justin Jones.
The Republicans in the majority said I had "violated decorum" and deserved an unprecedented expulsion. The press called Rep. Jones, Rep. Gloria Johnson and me "The Tennessee Three."
With our expulsion, they thought they could silence our Movement. But they were wrong.
The truth is, that fight was never about just one protest or one issue. It was about the kind of future we’re willing to fight to build — and still is.
I’m tired of seeing the same corrupt, corporate- and special-interest-backed politicians sell our communities short.
I’m tired of seeing Donald Trump and MAGA-sympathizers tear down democracy while working people suffer.
Enough is enough, John. I am running for Congress to fight for our families, our values, and our future. We need new leaders in Congress who will stand up for what is right.
