Governor Kelly Launches ‘The People’s Budget’ Statewide Listening Tour in Salina
~~Nearly 100 Kansans Join Governor’s First Town Hall Event to Share Thoughts on State Budget~~
SALINA – On Thursday, Governor Laura Kelly launched her statewide listening tour, ‘The People’s Budget,’ in Salina at Salina South High School. Joined by Adam Proffitt, Director of the Budget/Secretary of the Kansas Department of Administration, and nearly 100 Kansans, Governor Kelly emphasized the need for responsible budgeting.
“While I may be the one to propose a budget to the Legislature in January, it’s vital that Kansans have a say in this process, so it reflects our shared values and priorities,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “It was encouraging to hear from many engaged Kansans in Salina last night who shared their thoughts on topics ranging from supporting our students and schools to protecting our rural hospitals.”
During the town hall portion of the event, Governor Kelly spoke with Kansans who encouraged continuing to fully fund public education, increasing funding for special education, encouraged Kansas to expand Medicaid, and were concerned about the state’s long-term fiscal outlook under the budget passed by the Legislature in April.
