The election will begin October 14th , and online voting will last until Sunday, October 19th at 11:59 PM Eastern.
Those attending NLAS D.C. will be able, and are encouraged, to vote in person on Monday, October 20th during the Members’ Retreat.
The election will be run using approval voting , meaning voters can vote for as many candidates as they feel comfortable being on the committee. The candidates with the highest number of votes will win. For example, if there are four candidates—April, Brent, Cindy, and Daniel—and after reading their statements, you are only comfortable with April, Daniel, and Cindy, you can give each of them one vote. Your friend, on the other hand, may be comfortable with all four and will vote for all four, while another voter might cast just one vote for April alone.
What’s New This Year
Starting in 2025, Steering Committee members will serve two-year terms , split into two staggered “classes” to ensure continuity:
* The top five vote-getters will serve as Class I , with terms ending in 2027.
* The remaining four will serve as Class II , with initial one-year terms ending in 2026 (and full two-year terms thereafter).
As before, two seats are reserved for international members to ensure global representation. If all top five vote-getters are from the United States, the highest-ranking international candidate will replace the fifth-place domestic candidate in Class I. If all four remaining elected candidates are from the U.S., the second-highest international candidate will replace the ninth-place domestic candidate in Class II.
