It’s Shannon O’Brien (Chair of the Montana Democratic Party). I’ll be honest, this is a longer email. But things are changing here in Montana, and I wanted to take the time to explain why. John, I need to be honest with you:

Last year was a gut punch for all of us.

Republican extremists funnelled over $100 MILLION into our state to buy their way into power — and ultimately defeat us.

They’ve used their power to destroy our Democratic progress, align themselves with Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda, and push our state backwards, not forwards.

We can’t let Republican extremists defeat us like that again. So, this year, we’re doing things differently.

I’m working to unite Democrats across the state so we can lay the groundwork needed to rebuild our Democratic stronghold and move our state forward.

Together, we have a chance to work toward a better future for Montana: good-paying jobs, strong public schools, lower costs, and access to health care. But, I’ll be honest, winning back Montana isn’t going to be easy – or cheap – work. I know we were outraised last year.

I know we faced some devastating losses.

And I know that for many of you, the future of the Democratic Party in Montana may look bleak.

But, hear me when I say this: When Democrats stand united — we’re unstoppable.

I wouldn’t have stepped up as Chair if I didn’t believe we had the momentum for change. Together, we can turn Montana into a state where every hard-working person has the opportunity to raise a family, own a home, and live their American dream.
