The government shutdown continues, and instead of paying our obligations, far-right folks in Congress are putting servicemembers' pay, support for farmers, and our health insurance subsidies on the line.

I'll keep saying this: it's our job to stand up against funding the president's personal police force and take back our money and power to support the things we really care about: rural farmers, teachers, clinics, and more.

ICE now has more money to play with than actual armies – and it's all paid for by you and me.

Here's what that level of funding costs us in real terms:

• Higher prices on produce
• Closed rural hospitals
• Delayed or unpaid farming grants and contracts
• Long lines and unanswered phones at the Social Security office

The folks in power want to use threats of ICE or the National Guard as a way to sow fear and intimidation – whether it's trying to keep late-night comedians like Jimmy Kimmel in line or keep people like you and me from loudly demanding better from this administration.

And they'll gladly take money out of our pockets to fund it.

Our job as citizens, voters, and loudmouth farmers and ranchers is to stand up against it and take back our money and our power.
