Across the country, Republicans know their policies are deeply unpopular, so they’re trying to hold onto power with partisan redistricting plans designed to silence voters and protect their majority in the U.S. House.

In Texas, Republicans surrendered to Donald Trump and passed a racially gerrymandered map that dilutes the voices of minority voters and in doing so wipes out five Democratic seats.  And across the country, Republicans are pushing partisan maps to lock in their power—from Ohio to Missouri to Indiana.

Now, California is fighting back.  The legislature passed a map that could help Democrats gain five seats in 2026 to even out the impact of this power imbalance thanks to Texas’ redistricting efforts—but it only takes effect if voters approve Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act, allowing mid-decade redistricting to undo GOP power grabs.
