Hi John,
Since our founding in 1990, Rock the Vote has promoted the same message: Censorship is Un-American [[link removed]] . Recent attacks to suppress speech strike at the heart of democratic society. A nation cannot remain free if its people are forbidden to speak, to question, to learn, to dissent, to read.
The majority of Americans don’t support censorship, but the small number of people leading the charge are organized, and they’re counting on us not taking action.

This is National Banned Books Week. [[link removed]] And this Saturday, October 11th is “Let Freedom Read Day,” a day of action [[link removed]] . We invite you to join us and take one or more of the actions listed below:
* C heck out a banned book from your local library or buy one from a local bookstore to help make the case to keep those books available when they’re challenged.
* Learn about Book Ban hot spots [[link removed]] across the country and find out what books are banned in your state.
* Show Up for Your Local Library [[link removed]] by contacting members of Congress to support federal funding for libraries.
* Show how you’re taking action on social media by using the hashtags #LetFreedomReadDay and #BannedBooksWeek!
The censorship of books controls information, silences voices, erases stories, and limits critical thinking and learning. Every effort to silence a voice is an assault on the freedom that sustains us, and it’s young people and future generations who will suffer most.
We can’t tackle this problem alone, but we can talk to our friends and neighbors and ask them to join us in the fight against censorship.
Thanks for doing your part,
– The Rock the Vote Team
