John,
Since Congress shut down on September 30, federal workers have either been off the job or working without pay. This morning, on October 10, they missed their first paycheck.
Instead of negotiating an end to the shutdown, Donald Trump has threatened mass firings, and even pledged to revoke a law that he signed to guarantee backpay to workers after a shutdown.
He’s going through all this effort just so he can continue to hack away at our health care. The added suffering of federal workers is, in his eyes, a feature, not a bug.
The people who are working at Social Security offices, still making sure seniors’ checks go out on time, won’t get their own check this week. Their bills won’t stop. The rent is still due, and they still have families who need to eat. We need solidarity, not charity.
Our friends at The Labor Force are distributing grocery cards to federal workers during this shutdown to help ease the pain. Meanwhile, we're working to end this shutdown by organizing to demand Republicans come to the table to lower healthcare costs, reopen the government, and get our federal workers paid again. Can you split a donation to buy a load of groceries for a family in need and keep the pressure on Congress?

Then text SHUTDOWN to 30403 (or call 833-636-3259) to use our call tool to urge your Senator to pass a funding bill that lowers health care costs.
Here’s the bottom line: Trump and his MAGA cronies know that their ideas are despised by the majority of Americans.
And they know that working families around the country blame them for this shutdown too.
They also know that it’s too late to put the genie back in the bottle. Which is why they’re trying to punish federal employees and blame the rest of us for it.
But federal employees are not bargaining chips. They are veterans, caregivers, and neighbors who serve their country and fellow Americans every day. They deserve stability and respect, not pink slips and political games.
Can you split a donation between The Labor Force and WFP to fund a load of groceries for a federal employee and to keep up the pressure on Congress to ensure they pass a funding bill that lowers our health care costs and re-opens the government?
Then use our Senate call tool by texting SHUTDOWN to 30403 or dialing 833-636-3259 to make sure your elected officials know that they can’t cave to Trump’s demands.
In solidarity,
Team WFP
