John,
Across the country, Democratic Attorneys General are leading the fight to hold Trump and his allies accountable to our laws, preserve democracy, and protect our fundamental freedoms.
Meanwhile, Republican AGs are using the powers of their office to further Trump’s MAGA agenda – including when it comes to abortion rights – and a few frightening stories broke recently that may have flown under your radar.
First: Abortion providers in Missouri have reported that AG Catherine Hanaway is seeking the medical records of abortion patients. You read that right – as part of a legal battle still unfolding, the Attorney General’s office has subpoenaed Planned Parenthood for records that include the private medical data of patients who have had abortions.
In Texas, AG Ken Paxton has just proudly announced the arrests of eight people in connection with providing abortions. These arrests are part of a growing trend toward the criminalization of patients and providers –a trend that makes all pregnancies less safe.
And finally, Louisiana AG Liz Murrill is leading a lawsuit against the FDA in an effort to block the mailing of abortion medication. This is one of several lawsuits that is likely headed to the Supreme Court, where its outcome will shape the future of abortion access nationwide.
Examples like these are exactly why Vote Pro-Choice works so hard to elect pro-choice Attorneys General: because this office has the power to either fight for our freedoms or to restrict access and criminalize care.
There are more than thirty state AG races coming up in 2026, but Virginia gets to make its choice this year, which is why we’re all in to oust Republican AG Jason Miyares, who has endorsed a Virginia abortion ban and aligned himself with anti-abortion groups.
If you’re able, please consider supporting our work to elect pro-choice Attorneys General and stop the criminalization of patients and providers.
Thanks for being with us,
Carly LeQuire
