Celebrations mark a new chapter for historic hall
Chadderton’s historic Foxdenton Hall is stepping into the spotlight once again as restoration plans gather momentum.
A celebration marked the start of its transformation, with a £228,000 National Lottery Heritage Fund grant and £119,000 from Oldham Council — the first phase of a £3.5 million revival led by the charity Chadderton Together in partnership with the council.
After standing empty for 14 years, the Grade II-listed hall is being brought back to life with a vision that goes far beyond bricks and mortar. Deputy Leader Cllr Elaine Taylor said the project aims to make the hall “a base to promote social inclusion, reduce isolation, and bring people together.”
Mayor of Oldham Cllr Eddie Moores called it “an exciting new chapter” and praised the “remarkable” volunteers helping to restore this local treasure.

Oldham enchanted by Manchester Camerata’s musical magic
Audiences big and small were enchanted by beautiful, interactive performances from the incredible Manchester Camerata.
The orchestra performed the much-loved Jill Tomlinson children’s story The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark at the Spindles as part of their Here We Are tour of Greater Manchester.
The event, supported by Oldham Coliseum, celebrated the launch of 10 new Music Cafés across Greater Manchester, including right here in Oldham — offering support, connection and joy for people living with dementia and their carers.
Cllr Peter Dean, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said: "These cafés provide vital support and friendship for people living with dementia and their families, and it’s wonderful to see them celebrated in such an uplifting way."

National recognition for the Spindles
We’re proud to share that the Spindles Town Square Shopping Cent redevelopment has been recognised on the national stage, receiving Highly Commended at the British Council for Offices Awards.
The building impressed the national judging panel for its creative transformation and evolution of the current shopping centre into modern, flexible workspaces and community hub provision. The redevelopment has already brought many positives to the town, with organisational offices located side-by-side with local shops, helping to drive increased footfall and sales.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.

New permanent Post Office branch set to open on Monday
The reopening of a temporary branch to a permanent Post Office with full range of services has been slightly delayed until Monday.
But this extra time ensures everything is set up to offer an improved experience for our residents and businesses.
The Post Office, in what was Clinton Cards in the Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre, will be providing a wide range of services, including banking, for both personal and business accounts, currency exchange, passports,
driving licence renewals and SIA applications.
We look forward to seeing this valuable service return to the heart of our community.

Council launches consultation on HMO planning controls
We’re asking residents for their views on plans to introduce new rules for shared houses (HMOs).
The proposal would mean anyone wanting to turn a normal house into a small shared home (with up to six people) would need planning permission, giving us more control to make sure new HMOs are good quality and in the right places.
Consultation runs until Sunday 16 November.

Oldham celebrates National Curry Week
It’s National Curry Week, so why not celebrate one of Britain’s most loved dishes this weekend?
Over 200 years ago, South Asian settlers brought their incredible flavours and recipes to Britain, and from there a national love began to grow.
Oldham has played a big part in that story too. For generations, local families have run restaurants and takeaways that have shaped the town’s food culture and brought people together over good food and warm hospitality.
