Dear John,
It’s no secret that the Trump administration has made it its mission to dismantle the Department of Education, and with the school year in full swing, the full impact of these cuts is showing.
Yale has experienced major losses in critical research grants. UConn has lost $33 million in federal funding. And state universities like Southern Connecticut State are seeing millions stripped away.
Pell Grants and Graduate PLUS loans are on the chopping block, threatening to take thousands of dollars out of the pockets of Connecticut families. International students are being turned away or stripped of visas.
But Connecticut Democrats are fighting back.
- Attorney General William Tong took Trump to court and forced the administration to release tens of millions for our K-12 schools.
-
Our Democratic leaders in the legislature are pushing for accountability and preparing to protect students and campuses if federal funding is yanked again.
-
And our congressional delegation is defending Pell Grants, research dollars, and the basic promise that every student deserves the chance to succeed.
Trump may want to undermine our schools, but here in Connecticut, Democrats will not back down. We are standing with students, teachers, and families to protect education and opportunity, and to build a stronger future for our children.
Thank you for your support,
Sarah Locke
