European Greens ([link removed] )
Dear John,
We hope you are doing well and that you are taking care of yourself in these difficult and challenging times. We know that the world is not slowing down, but neither are we. From standing up for the climate at massive marches, demanding accountability for the genocide in Gaza, to supporting students in Serbia standing up for democracy, people are at the forefront of resistance and hope.
We are back with a round up at a time when people everywhere are demanding peace, dignity, and a sustainable future. Across our green family, we’ve seen powerful moments of solidarity and change: the Global Sumud Flotilla, a big win in Czechia, new leadership in England, Wales, and Scotland, historic results in Norway, and Greens defending democracy on the streets of Belgrade.
Here’s what’s been happening.
Green win in Czechia!
The Czech Greens. Zelení - Strana zelených, are back in Parliament for the first time since 2010!
Amid an election with the highest voter turnout in decades, the Czech Republic elected two Green Members of Parliament: Gabriela Svárovská and Irena Ferčíková Konečná. 🥳
Congratulations to Zeleni from all of the European Greens! 💚
These incredible women will fight for greener & fairer solutions for the people of Czechia and we can’t wait to see what they have in store! Unfortunately, the other big winners of the elections are the populists and the far-right, with multiple right-wing populist parties increasing their support. Greens will stand up with the other democratic forces against those nationalists, threatening our rights.
All eyes in Gaza, all eyes on Global Sumud Flotlla
We condemn in the strongest possible terms the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla and the Thousand Madleens Flotilla, which took place in international waters while it was carrying out its humanitarian mission to deliver aid to Gaza.
The people of Gaza are suffering a genocide, famine & violent attacks. This must end.
The Israeli government is under legal obligation to provide aid, to the population of the Gaza strip. They and must be held accountable for failing to do that, and for preventing others from doing so.
Those on board the flotilla, including green MEPs Benedetta Scuderi, and Melissa Camara as well as other Green representatives and activists from many countries – including Greta Thunberg - were carrying out a humanitarian mission. It is unacceptable that volunteers felt compelled to risk their lives to make up for the shortcomings of the EU and its Member States.
EU Governments and European Commission must hold the Israeli government accountable.

European Greens’ Mayors’ Roundtable in Brussels
Green Mayors are on the frontline fighting against climate change and for affordable housing, green public transport and more.
Last week Green Mayors from all over Europe gathered in Brussels to discuss what is happening in their cities and how the changes to the EU budget could affect them.
At the Mayors meeting, Green Mayors testified their solidarity with Ekrem İmamoğlu the Mayor of Istanbul who was arrested on politically motivated charges in March, right before he was due to be nominated as Presidential candidate.
🇹🇷 İmamoğlu has led Turkey's biggest city since 2019 and won re-election last year.
❌ This is political repression against President Erdoğan's biggest rival.
Since his arrest, thousands have taken to the street to protest against political repression and corruption. They have been met with terrible police violence.
👉 We call for the immediate release of Ekrem İmamoğlu.
✊ We stand by the people of Turkey and their right to freely elect their leaders.
Congratulations to new GPEW leader
Congrats to Zack Polanski on being elected new leader of Green Party of England and Wales ([link removed] ) .
Under Zack's leadership, the Green Party of England and Wales will continue to fight for urgent action to tackle the climate emergency and against inequality and injustice, by taxing extreme wealth to fund public services.
Thank you to the outgoing leaders Carla Denyer & Adrian Ramsay, who quadrupled the GPEW’s MPs from 1 to 4.
GPEW gained 7000 new members after a very successful video arguing that we should “Make Hope Normal Again”. Want to get inspired? Watch their video here. ([link removed] )
Congratulations to Scottish Green’s new co-leaders
Congrats to the new co-leaders of the Scottish Green Party ([link removed] ) : Gillian Mackay & Ross Greer.
Together, they will keep fighting for social and economic equality, fairness and a more sustainable future.
Thank you to the outgoing leaders Lorna Slater & Patrick Harvie for their incredible job over the last years! Patrick Harvie was first elected as the Party’s co-convenor in 2008 and as part of its first Co-Leader team in 2019, alongside Lorna Slater.
Rasmus & Vula meeting with Serbia party
In September Vula Tsetsi , EGP Co-Chair and Rasmus Nordqvist MEP went to Serbia to show solidarity with the peaceful protesters and the Green-Left Front party. They also joined the students of Serbia who protesting for democracy, against autocracy and police repression.
After the protest against police violence and to defend the universities’ autonomy, our Co-Chair Vula Tsetsi and our committee member Rasmus Nordqvist were insulted and threatened on national television by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
Vula Tsetsi responded ([link removed] ) : “Calling us 'European Scum' will not deter us. We will not bow to threats. With our Serbian member party, Zeleno-Levi Front, we stand proudly with the students who are turning this civic energy into a real democratic alternative for Serbia."
Great news from Norway!
Green party Miljøpartiet De Grønne - MDG ([link removed] ) got over the 4% threshold for the first time in the recent Norwegian elections. They got 4.7% of votes and 8 seats in Parliament. This Green success secures a left-wing government. That means that despite gains by the far right, they will not be in power.
We’re also excited to learn that Frøya Skjold Sjursæther becomes the youngest MP ever in Norway.
We wish all the best to the newly elected MPs and all the amazing volunteers who are taking Norway towards more climate action and solidarity.

Thanks to our pressure, the European Commission has begun to work on an affordable housing plan to tackle the housing crisis in the EU. And they want to know what you think. With the help of some bright programmers, we have created a tool that makes it easy peasy to share your ideas in the official consultation.
Let’s make it clear that EU citizens want action to guarantee everyone has a safe place to call home.
