Monday, October 20, at 7pm ET

***Note: This session is required for any groups applying for the
Solidarity in Action Fund.***

Our society is built upon a set of unwritten rules that govern what is
seen as acceptable and who is valued. Those rules are put in place by the
people, communities, organizations, and more that hold power. But if the
rules are (often) unwritten, how do they wield that power?

On this call, Tim Wise will walk us through how power operates in society,
shapes injustices, and creates disparities and what it means to recognize
those systemic power structures and analyze their impact on marginalized
communities.

For some help with context, you can read Tim Wise’s [ [link removed] ]Under the
Affluence: Shaming the Poor, Praising the Rich and Sacrificing the Future
of America and/or watch [ [link removed] ]The Great White Hoax: Donald Trump & the
Politics of Race & Class in America (or here for [ [link removed] ]free if you have a
library card) before the training.

Tim Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in
the United States. He is the author of nine books, including his latest
essay collection, Dispatches from the Race War, and his highly acclaimed
memoir, White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son.

Advancing Our Values -- Solidarity in Action Training Series

Solidarity in Action is our speaker series bringing together Indivisibles

allyship. Authoritarianism succeeds when it targets vulnerable populations
and everyone turns aside. We will not look away. With this speaker series,
we’re going to learn how to better support impacted communities from
experts in the field.
